How To Sell Grape Jelly - A Guide To Selling Anything Online

Posted by Tammy Randall on

Recently I've started following a very talented business coach on Instagram. Her name is Sabrina Kane. You can find her on Instagram here. She's a black girl from the south with a very distinct speaking style. She does NOT "code switch". EVER.

I'm just an old white woman from the Great Plains, and I don't care how she talks - she's speaking to me!

I'm 99.9% sure I am not her ICA (ideal customer avatar). I don't care. But, I digress...

Maybe it's because I was raised in a pentecostal, holy roller, holy ghost, speaking-in-tongues, kind of church. You know, the traveling-evangelist-laying-on-of-hands kind of church.

This girl sounds like church to me and she's all about saving souls (A.K.A. helping people). Clearly, the Spirit is moving in her.

So I recently listened to her preach (talk) about how to sell grape jelly. Let me break it down for you in case you don't speak holy-roller-black-girl-southern-style.

The 4 Must-Dos To Selling Grape Jelly Online

Must-Do #1  Know Who You Are

You need to know, deep down in your heart, that you're all about grape jelly. You believe in grape jelly. You were put on this planet to bless people by allowing them to buy your grape jelly. You know that those fancy preserves are just fluff and grape jelly is where it's at. You're not a raspberry jam pusher. Nor are you an apricot preserves production palace. You sell grape jelly. It's Who. You. Are. And you, my friend, are true to yourself. You are not in the business of changing your product to please people. You sell grape jelly and if someone is not into grape jelly, then they can move on down the road.

Must-Do #2  Make Sure You Are Communicating

You know who you are and who you're talking to. You sell grape jelly, but you know that, depending on the demographic of your audience, some people will mistakenly refer to it as grape jam. Some will even call it marmalade. Can you imagine? Whatever. You sell grape jelly and you tailor your jelly jargon to your audience.

Must-Do #3  Attracting and Repelling

Now that you know who you are who you're talking to, you have to make sure you are attracting and repelling at the same time. What does this mean? It means that you sell GRAPE JELLY. You don't care about those people who want peach preserves, they can keep looking because you are not about to change your product to please everybody. You are ATTRACTING the grape jelly lovers and REPELLING the people who want every other flavor. You are all about grape jelly and nothing else. This is called niching down.

Must-Do #4  Exposure

You know ain't nobody gonna buy your grape jelly unless you tell them you're selling grape jelly. Not just one time, three times, or even seven times. You may have to tell that same person thirty times that you have grape jelly for sale. You have to be consistent. You need to be a grape jelly pusher. Your purpose on the planet is to tell people about your grape jelly every day.

That's it

That's how you do it. If you sell grape jelly, this is your blue print. If you sell anything else, just substitute the words "grape jelly" with the name of your product and do the exact same thing.

This whole process was adapted from this video by Sabrina Kane of SWIRK MOB. The entire video is AWESOME (about 25 minutes long), but if you just want to see how to sell grape jelly, start at the 20:15 time marker.

What is your grape jelly? Let me know in the comments.
